Logan Saints fought back from a 14 nil deficit only to be denied a win in a desperate final attempt to conjure up a win. With changes being made in the warm up Logan showed no sign of their disrupted preparation matching one of the competition pace setters East’s, to be nil all at half time.
With East’s scoring two tries early in the second half the Saints second round surge seem to have faltered but some resolute defence helped them wear down the tigers to score twice in the last six minutes of the match. Only the charge down of a field goal attempt in the final seconds was the difference between the Saints pulling off a miraculous win and a hard fought draw. “We showed a lot of heart today to fight back to 14 all draw. We just didn’t have the bounce of the ball today but we hung in there and fought back well. A lot of teams would have just pulled up stumps -the players are desperate to stay alive in this competition.”
Best for the Saints were flanker Kris Zeipes, skipper Rex Harrison and Fullback Kai Pheeney. The Saints now take on new competition leaders Brothers twice in four days.
