SAINTS TAKE OUT LOCAL DERBY IN STYLE
7 August 2010

The Logan Saints demolished Redlands 38 - 14 in the local derby match played at Homestead Park in their first-division rugby union clash on the weekend.

Matches between the Saints and Redlands have traditionally been tense affairs over the years with both clubs keen for bragging rights as the best team out of the two most recently promoted to the competition, and this clash proved no exception.

The Saints had extra motivation because Redlands had prevailed in their game earlier in the season when they fell over the line with a 13 - 8 win.

This match was vastly different with the Saints playing an upbeat brand of rugby which Redlands simply had no answers for.

The Saints forward pack had been impressive all season long and in this encounter they shone and their abrasive play left the Redlands forwards shellshocked and this set the platform for the Logan backline to set Homestead Park alight.

And the backs did not disappoint and their attacking raids regularly tore the Redlands defence to ribbons.

The 24 point victory was a high point for the Saints in the second-half of the competition, but with one round of the competition remaining and with other results ruining Logan's mathematical chance of sneaking into the top four, it now seems certain that Logan will be left languishing just out of reach of a finals place.

Club spokesman Peter Tisdall was ectastic with the result against Logan's old rivals.

"There's certainly been some great games between us and Redlands for as long back as I can remember and it really hurt the boys to drop a game to them earlier in the season," said Tisdall.

"But with a result as emphatic as this, there's a hell of a lot to be happy with."

The Logan Saints finish their 2010 first-division rugby union campaign next week with matches against GPS at Ashgrove Sports Ground, Yoku Road.
