The Logan Saints suffered a tough 22 - 3 loss against the University of Queensland at Homestead Park on the week.
The Saints were looking to turn around recent form against UQ with a view to getting on a roll with semi-finals just around the corner, but Logan came up against a very committed opposition.
But the second-placed UQ shut out the Saints with their effective defence throughout, and despite Logan boasting some of the competition’s most potent attacking players, they struggled to cross the try line.
Logan’s only points came through the boot of half-back Tim Burrows who notched up three points through a shot at goal from a penalty.
In response, UQ scored four tries to secure the win and to claim a valuable bonus point to strengthen their position in the top four.
The loss leaves the Logan Saints in fourth place with GPS within striking distance in third and with Brothers lingering two wins behind the Saints in fifth.
Club spokesman Peter Tisdall was hopeful that the Saints could turn their form around.
“It’s a disappointing loss for us at this stage of the season and this was a game which we were really hoping to score a win because UQ are one of the sides that we could come up against in the finals,” said Tisdall.
“But all we can do is have a think about what went wrong and do our best to turn it around next week.”
Logan continue their march towards the first-division rugby union semi-finals when they travel to Albion to take on Brothers in what is shaping up as a vital match.
