SAINTS DEMOLISH BULLDOGS
10 July 2010

The Logan Saints moved to within striking distance of the top four with a 31 - 3 thrashing of the Wests Bulldogs at Homestead Park on the weekend.

Logan were desperate to keep in touch with the leading sides at the top of the table and came up against a Wests team who had struggled throughout the year but had always been a thorn in the side of the Saints' final aspirations in previous years.

But the Saints dominated from the opening whistle with a complete performance which left the Bulldogs regretting their trip to Logan.

The forward pack as a whole stood out with a powerful display at the set piece and breakdown, with their physical approach leaving Wests shell-shocked.

Outside centre Ailaoa Chong-Nee took advantage of the strong platform to turn in one of his best games of the season since converting from the backrow and repeatedly carried the ball strongly into the Bulldogs defence. Wing Pat Edwards was another to star with the ball in hand.

Tries went to loose forwards Tim Griffiths and Tim Woods while backline stars half-back Tim Burrows and full-back Chris Staunton also snared five-pointers.

Burrows also enjoyed considerable success with the boot, converting all four tries and kicking a penalty goal as well to ensure that Wests were firmly shut out of the contest.

Logan spokesman Danny McGowan was upbeat about the team's performance at this stage of the season.

"There was a point a few weeks ago where the boys were struggling for form a little bit and the season could have easily gone the wrong way and we'd be looking at regrouping for 2011, but there's a bunch of positives they showed out there on the field today and that's the kind of rugby we need to keep playing," said McGowan.

The Logan Saints continue their first division rugby union campaign next week with matches against the Souths Magpies at Chipsy Wood Oval.
