A 40 - 26 loss to the Sunnybank Dragons at Oldmac Oval on the weekend has left the Logan Saints ten points adrift of the top four with two rounds to play.
The Saints had been enjoying a run of wins leading up to this local derby against the Dragons who are always provide strong competition.
Sunnybank were bolstered by playing at home and having a number of players available from their premier grade side and thjis proved the difference between the two sides.
Logan, who were missing a number of key personnel through injury after a long season, was within reach with only two converted tries seperating the two sides, but that difference proved too much.
Backrowers Tim Hintz and Tim Woods both scored tries in the tight to provide the Saints with hope and winger Quinton Matika bagged a brace of tries to put a scare into the Sunnybank side.
Woods' try puts him at the top of the competition try scorers list with 12 for the season so far with Matika not far behind in fourth place with a tally of nine.
Meanwhile, half-back Tim Burrows cemented his place at the top of the competitions point scorers list with another three conversions.
Club spokesman Danny McGowan was disappointed with the result.
"
We're always keen to knock off Sunnybank whenever we play them and obviously this time was no exception," said McGowan.
"But at the back end of a long, tough season the boys were fired up to notch up another win, but things just didn't go our way today and the result is pretty disappointing."
The Logan Saints continue their first division rugby union campaign next week with matches at Homestead Park against Redlands.
