NEW HOME APPROVED FOR LOGAN CITY SAINTS
19 June 2009
The State Government and Logan City Council have formally approved a $3 million grant for the first stage of the ‘Griffith University Sports Field Development' plan.
The purpose-built rugby facility being built at the University’s Logan campus in Meadowbrook will give the Logan City Saints Rugby Union club a new home to accommodate the growth of rugby and playing numbers in the region.
The first stage of the $5.7 million project includes a two storey club clubhouse, three fields, competition standard lighting, covered grandstands and a kiosk.
The Logan City Council matched the State Government’s $1.5 million contribution in a major boost for rugby and in particular the Saints, who hold a strong desire to gain entry into the Queensland Premier Rugby competition in the future.
Saints Chairman Peter Tisdall said the grant and relocation would help build rugby in the area.
“The club is thrilled by the news and I think it’ll provide the impetus for our push to make rugby in Logan one of the leading codes,” Tisdall said.
The Saints will continue to play out of their original home, Homestead Park, until the project is completed at the end of 2010.
The fields will be shared with touch football squads, while the Saints’ under-6’s to under-9’s will continue to play at Homestead Park.
