SAINTS BOUNCE BACK WITH A WIN
23 June 2009

Logan Saints have bounced back with a 29-17, five try to two win over Wests at Sylvan road Toowong on Saturday. After six straight losses that has all but wrecked the Saints season there was a sense of relief that the losing streak was over.

‘This win was a huge relief but what was most pleasing was our application to our game plan. We still have some execution issues and we want to improve on today’s effort.” Said first grade coach Mark Forrester.

When pressed for the biggest factor contributing to the Saints improvement Forrester replied “attitude in defence, at one stage we held Wests out for 10 phases in our own quarter and our dominant scrum”.

With a number of positional changes in the backs for the first time since the State Cup the Saints backline capitalised on the work of their dominant forward pack. After being stunned by a Wests  intercept try  in the opening minutes the Saints fought back to lead 24 to 7 at halftime. Winger David Wilder finished the game with a try in his comeback from injury.

Forrester singled out former Queensland schoolboy Luke Leeming (pictured) in his debut at his preferred position of Centre and Tim Burrow solid contribution at halfback and standout performers in the backs while Prop Leon Makeri , Flanker Tim Hintz and blockbusting Nos 8 Tim Woods shone in the forwards.
