SAINTS MAINTAIN IMPRESSIVE FORM
30 March 2009
Logan Saints maintained their winning form with a comprehensive 27-12 four tries to two victory over Wests at Homestead Park on Saturday.
Logan City exerted its forward dominance from the outset, dominating the Bulldogs scrum and denying their dangerous backline clean ball. After a lacklustre start to the season the Saint’s backline produced another polished display in attack and defence to capitalise on the great work done by their dominant forward pack.
Saints led 14-7 at half time, scored twice more in the second half, and were unlucky not to finish with a fifth try after fly half Chris Staunton was involved in a sickening collision with the goalposts.
"I am happy we maintained our structure in attack and defence" Saints coach Mark Forrester said. "Our discipline went a long way to ensuring that we got the bonus point today. Having said that I felt we probably could have gone up a gear".
"Our tight five paved the way for today’s win and under the ELV’s a quality scrum is vital to provide attacking platforms and dictate the pace of the game. Having said that you really couldn’t go past Tim Woods (pictured) as man of the match".
In a bruising performance Woods terrorised bulldogs inside backs with his charges always managing to put the Saints on the front foot. The Saints maintained their midfield dominance from the previous week with halfback Tim Burrow and Elliot Lacaze standing out.
Logan City have come through the game without any major injury concerns with only flanker Tim Hintz (ankle) requiring treatment after the game. The Saints move now to their final State Cup Match of the year against the Darling Downs at Homestead Park on Saturday.
