SAINTS DOWNED BY REDLANDS
7 May 2009
Logan Saints went down by a two point margin to Redlands at Judy Holt Park on Saturday 24-22. With chances of playing semi final rugby slipping away coach Mark Forrester was blunt in his assessment of the Saints performance.
“Performance and application wise it was completely unacceptable. We didn’t handle their kicking game at all and allowed ourselves to be put under pressure looking for miracle plays. All credit to Redlands for sticking to their game plan, I wish I could say the same.” said Forrester
“We have had some very frank discussions as a group about the performance on the weekend. Everyone knows the position it has put us in and how we can dig
ourselves out. I have been honest with the players about selection policy for this week but it is also important not to make threats or be emotional in putting together the team after a couple of close losses.”
When pushed Forrester conceded there would be some changes in the line up to address the problems at the breakdown and defensive errors.
Logan was best served by Skipper Rex Harrison (pictured), lock David Temperly, and Colin Beer at centre had another strong defensive display.
On the positive side for the Saints Joe Mazey, last years flanker and stand out performer, has been showing great form after at late start to the year, Tam McElhaney returns from injury and Chris Staunton will be available for a bench spot returning from his honeymoon on Saturday.
Logan now take on the top three in the competition over the next three weeks commencing with GPS this weekend.
