LOGAN SAINTS DOWNED BY COMPETITION LEADERS
13 May 2009

Logan Saints pushed competition leaders GPS to the brink in their 38-28 loss on Saturday at Homestead Park. The ten point gap didn’t reflect how close the game was and Coach Mark Forrester was clearly frustrated with two decisions that turned the game on its head.

“We were on the unlucky side of a couple of important decisions today that probably hurt us in the  final result." Forrester said. "You get that through the season you just hope they even out through the year. You can’t really blame the referees - the increased pace of the game under the ELV’s mean they can struggle with the pace of the game.  Maybe supporting the match day official with assistant referees will help with the pace of the ELV’s.”

Forrester is not yet sold on the ELV’s “You wouldn’t want to use today’s game as an example of how they are helping the game. I felt we were playing almost one phase run and ruck rugby. I am also concerned that someone will sustain a serious injury from pulling down of the maul. We saw an instance of that today with a GPS player trapped under a maul collapsed by the defence was seriously injured.”

Far from being disgruntled Forrester was very pleased with the player’s effort.

"While we didn’t get the result we were after we had a big improvement this weekend and we will be looking to carry that into our game against Easts. Our forwards really excelled today the only area we let ourselves down on was our one on one defensive."

Forrester nominated stand in captain Tim Woods, lock Josh Robinson and  winger Daniel Porsbro-Pedersen the scorer of two ties as the stand out performers.
