The Logan Saints' run of wins came to an end on the weekend against Norths-QUT with a 40 - 24 loss at Hugh Courtney Oval.
The Saints were looking to consolidate their position in the top four of the Brisbane first-grade rugby union competition but came up against a determined Norths outfit who proved too much on the day.
Logan were competitive throughout and threatened the Norths line constantly with backline attacks which resulted in tries to wing Quinton Matika and full-back Chris Staunton.
Half-back Tim Burrows scored a try of his own along with enjoying a successful day with the boot as he converted all three tries along with a penalty goal for a 14-point haul.
But despite the individual point-scoring feats from the ranks of the Saints, Norths played conservatively but effectively to extend their lead over Logan.
The contrasting styles of the two teams was shown with Norths scoring three of their five tries through the forwards which proved too much for the Saints.
Club representative Peter Tisdall was optimistic that the side could overcome the result to turn around their fortunes in coming weeks.
"It's a long way to travel for games against Norths and there's never a question about the effort put in by the team, but the result just didn't go our way today," said Tisdall.
"The competition has a long way to go though and we're still ideally placed to come through the first half of the competition in a good position if we can string together a few wins."
The Saints' lower grade teams had a more successful outing with the second grade side notching up a 27 - 19 win over Norths.
The comprehensive display was Logan's best of the season to date and resulted in tries flanker Michael McLaughlin, half-back Newton Ferris, five-eighth Travis Gaskin and outside centre Gene Lowe.
Logan's third grade team were unlucky to be held to a draw against Norths with both sides finishing the match at 15 - 15.
The Logan Saints continue their first-division rugby union campaign next week with matches against local rivals, the Sunnybank Dragons, at Homestead Park, Shailer Park.
